Second Annual Csunity to Take Place in Fort Collins April 4

Colorado State University students will come together to give back to the Fort Collins community through a day of service April 4.

The second annual CSUnity, a campus wide community service event, will unite students from Greek chapters, student organizations, the Associated Students of Colorado State University, and residence halls and apartments to give a few hours of service to the community that they call home during their college years.

Teams of students will be sent out to work with a variety of agencies who are concerned with issues such as hunger, children, the environment, people with disabilities, the elderly, women, and affordable housing. The day of service provides an excellent opportunity for students to form a stronger link with the Fort Collins community, and allows community agencies an opportunity to create more awareness of their organization and make a connection with Colorado State students.

The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. April 4 at the Durrell Center with registration, followed by a breakfast rally at 9 a.m. The rally will feature speakers from the Fort Collins and campus communities. Volunteers will then be sent out to their assigned community agencies to provide service from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The day will conclude at 2:30 p.m. at the Durrell Center with food and entertainment.

"The day is designed to facilitate a stronger relationship between students and the community," said Jen Gelbmann, one of the advisors to the CSUnity planning committee. "The Fort Collins community is so rich in what it has to offer, and CSUnity is an opportunity for Colorado State students to experience it in a way which they might otherwise miss out on."

Last year, 85 students participated in CSUnity service projects with agencies such as the Overseas Development Network, the Sunshine School, the Education and Life Training Center, the Environmental Learning Center, and the Humane Society for Larimer County. Similar projects are being negotiated for this year with a wide variety of community agencies.

Students who would like to participate in CSUnity can pick up registration materials at the following locations: the Palmer Center front desk, the Residence Hall front desks, the Apartment Life Community Centers, the ASCSU office, the Greek Life Office, and the Lory Student Center Information Desk. The registration deadline is March 25, and materials are due to 111 Palmer Center.
