Colorado State University is offering a new program to construction industry professionals and to those making career changes into the construction industry.
The intensive summer program is designed to provide the skills necessary for professional and educational advancement in construction management. The program consists of four, two-week modules in the following four topic areas: construction materials and methods; construction engineering; mechanical and electrical systems; and estimating, scheduling and project management.
The program quickly fulfills prerequisite requirements for those who are enrolled in a construction management graduate program but need to complete prerequisite undergraduate courses.
"Prerequisite course work for a graduate student without a construction related undergraduate degree typically adds a year to the program," said John Murphy, assistant professor in manufacturing technology and construction management at Colorado State. "Through this program, people can fulfill these requirements in only two to eight weeks of summer instruction."
The modules also were developed to help those working in the construction industry or a related profession increase their knowledge and competency.
"This program will benefit professionals in the construction industry and related industries who would like the opportunity to move forward in their careers," said Murphy. "Many people find themselves topping out because of lack of credentials or knowledge. These courses are an excellent investment for companies to make in their employees or for individuals to make in themselves."
The program also will benefit those seeking professional certification status. The course material can help prepare students or professionals for the Professional Constructor exam. Professionals who need to maintain their professional certification also may use the modules to obtain continuing education units.
