Candidates for Dean of College of Engineering Visit Colorado State University for Interviews

Candidates for dean of the College of Engineering will be visiting Colorado State University for a series of interviews throughout December.

Candidates include John Daily from the department of mechanical engineering at the University of Colorado-Boulder; Neal Gallagher, chairman of the department of electrical engineering at the University of Delaware; John Lloyd from the department of mechanical engineering at Michigan State University-East Lansing; and J. Derald Morgan, dean of engineering at New Mexico State University.

Gallagher, who will visit Colorado State on Dec. 9-11, has been chairman of the department of electrical engineering and Charles Black Evans Professor, an endowed professorship, since 1994 at the University of Delaware. Prior to his tenure there, he was professor in the School of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University, where he taught from 1976-94.

He received his bachelor of science degree in physics from Loyola College in 1971, and master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from Princeton University in 1973-74.

Morgan will visit campus Dec. 13-15. He received his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University, master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla and doctorate in electrical engineering at Arizona State University. He has been dean of engineering at New Mexico State University since 1985. Prior to that, he was chairman of the electrical engineering department at the University of Missouri-Rolla.

His 25 years of teaching experience have included six educational awards and the establishment of engineering education programs in Algeria, Mexico and Vietnam.

Lloyd, who will visit Dec. 16-18, received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. He is University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University in addition to serving as director of the Institute for Global Engineering Education at the university. He also is Guest Professor in the department of engineering mechanics at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.

Prior to his tenure at Michigan State University, Lloyd was Visiting Professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., and professor and chairman of the department of mechanical engineering at Michigan State University-East Lansing.

Daily, who visited campus Dec. 3-4, is professor of mechanical engineering, director of the Center for Combustion and Environmental Research, director of the Undergraduate Environmental Engineering Program and chairman of the Boulder Faculty Assembly at the University of Colorado.
