Opera Costumes Showcased at Colorado State University

Note to Editors: Reporters are welcome to view the "OperaWear" exhibition as it is being mounted July 13, 14 and 15. Call Lavon Blaesi at (970) 491-1356 or (970) 223-2403 to arrange a visit.

Opera Fort Collins will hold a gala opening reception for "OperaWear," an exhibition of opera costumes, July 18 from 1-4 p.m. in the Gustafson Gallery at Colorado State University.

The exhibition features selected costumes from Opera Fort Collins’ large collection, including garments from "Faust," "Yeomen of the Guard," "Don Giovanni," "The Merry Widow" and "Regina."

The opening reception will honor Opera Fort Collins costumers Kay Tindall and Nadine Sheafor, who created the costumes in the exhibition. Refreshments will be served. Admission is $5 at the door or $4 in advance.

The "OperaWear" exhibition will run through Sept. 23 and is free and open to the public. The Gustafson Gallery is located at 501 W. Lake St. and hours are weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The costume exhibition is part of an anniversary celebration for Opera Fort Collins, which has presented opera performances for twenty years under the artistic direction of Elizabeth Elliott. This year’s Festival of Operatic Events in July is followed by Opera Fort Collins’ performances of the classic American opera, "Susannah," by Carlisle Floyd.

For tickets to "OperaWear" or information about the Festival of Operatic Events, send e-mail to opera@fortnet.org or call (970) 482-0220.
