January 15 is ‘colorado State Day’ at National Western Stock Show

Continuing a long tradition, Colorado State University officials will name the 2000 Livestock Leader and host a social hour for alumni and friends Jan. 15 as part of Colorado State Day at the National Western Stock Show, Rodeo and Horse Show in Denver.

The 19th annual College of Agricultural Sciences Social will be held 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Holiday Inn Denver-Northglenn. The Livestock Leader for 2000, a designation that recognizes outstanding contributors to the livestock industry, will be named during the program. The awards were given from 1960-1973 and again in 1976, resumed in 1986 and continue through the present. Recipients are chosen by Colorado State faculty.

The College of Agricultural Science’s largest annual alumni event will be presided over by Kirvin Knox, associate provost for agriculture and university outreach and dean of the college. Knox will provide an update on college activities and introduce donors of new scholarships and awards. Colorado State President Albert Yates, a member of the National Western board of directors, will present remarks.

Attending the social will be other Colorado State educators, members of the State Board of Agriculture, legislators and agricultural leaders.

Prior to the social event, Colorado State alumni, their families and friends can attend the day’s first Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association event, scheduled for 11 a.m. The grand entry by rodeo participants will include a display of Colorado State flags. Colorado State alumni Chuck Sylvester, general manager of the National Western, and Mike Cervi, owner of Cervi Championship Rodeo and provider of rodeo stock, will also be on hand.

The Holiday Inn Denver-Northglenn is located at 10 East 120th Ave., adjacent to I-25 and Broomfield at exit 233. The event, sponsored by the college and the Colorado State University Alumni Association, will include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
