Colorado State University Announces Spring Commencement Activities May 12 and 13

Colorado State University will present diplomas to spring 2000 graduates at commencement ceremonies May 12 and 13. College ceremonies and a ROTC commissioning will recognize 2,849 undergraduates and 725 graduate students, of which 89 are doctoral students. One hundred thirty-four professional veterinary medicine students will graduate. Forty-four students will graduate summa cum laude, 86 will graduate magna cum laude and 162 will graduate cum laude.

Among this year’s commencement speakers are State Representative Steve Tool, Colorado State University Vice President for Research and Information Technology Judson M. Harper and retired Brigadier General Stephen R. Smith.

Following is a complete list of graduation speakers, starting times and locations for each ceremony.

May 12

  • Professional Veterinary Medicine-speaker: Michael Lappin, professor, Department of Clinical Sciences; 11 a.m., Equine Teaching and Research Center, 701 S. Overland Trail.
  • Graduate School-speaker: Judson M. Harper, Colorado State vice president for Research and Information Technology. Colorado State President Albert C. Yates will confer degrees and Stewart A. Bliss, president, State Board of Agriculture, will provide concluding remarks; 3 p.m., Moby Arena.
  • ROTC Commissioning-speaker: Retired Brigadier General Stephen R. Smith; 3 p.m., Lory Student Center.
  • College of Natural Resources-speaker: John Mumma, former director of the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Colorado State Provost Loren Crabtree will confer degrees; 7 p.m., Equine Teaching and Research Center.
  • College of Applied Human Sciences-Elisabeth L. Wadman will give the student presentation and Nancy Hartley, dean of the College of Applied Human Sciences at Colorado State, will give the thank-you from the college and present degree candidates. Colorado State President Albert C. Yates will confer degrees; 7:30 p.m., Moby Arena.

May 13

  • College of Liberal Arts-speaker: Leslee Becker, associate professor, Department of English at Colorado State. Keith Miser, Colorado State vice president for Student Affairs, will confer degrees; 9 a.m., Moby Arena.
  • College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences-speaker: Erica Suchman, assistant professor, Department of Microbiology at Colorado State. John cully, Colorado State vice president for University Advancement, will confer degrees; 9 a.m., Equine Teaching and Research Center.
  • College of Business-speaker: State Representative Steve Tool. Colorado State President Albert C. Yates will confer degrees; 1 p.m., Moby Arena.
  • College of Agricultural Sciences-speaker: Kirvin L. Knox, vice provost for Agriculture and University Outreach. Lee Sommers, interim dean, College of Agricultural Sciences at Colorado State, will confer degrees; 1 p.m., Equine Teaching and Research Center.
  • College of Natural Sciences-speaker: Dr. Thomas R. Reardon, president of the American Medical Association Board of Trustees. John C. Raich, dean of the College of Natural Sciences at Colorado State, will confer degrees; 5 p.m., Moby Arena.
  • College of Engineering-speaker: Joseph P. Marcus, vice president of Production Operations for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company-Michoud Operations division. Neal C. Gallagher, dean of the College of Engineering at Colorado State, will give the charge to the graduates; 5 p.m., Equine Teaching and Research Center.
