Colorado State University Announces Fall 2000 Commencement Activities

Colorado State University will present diplomas to fall graduates at individual college ceremonies Dec. 15 and 16.

Diplomas will be given to 1461 undergraduates and 293 graduate students, of which 51 are doctoral students. Nineteen students will graduate summa cum laude, 45 will graduate magna cum laude and 96 will graduate cum laude. Following is a list of commencement speakers, starting times and locations for each college.

Dec. 15

  • ROTC Commissioning-speaker: Brigadier General Betty L. Mullis, mobilization assistant to the Director of Operations, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, Randolf Air Force Base, Texas. Commencement exercises begin at 3 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Theatre.
  • Graduate School-speaker: Pattie Cowell, Colorado State professor and chair of the English Department. Colorado State President Albert C. Yates will confer degrees and William W. Warren, State Board of Agriculture, will provide concluding remarks. Commencement exercises begin at 7:30 p.m. in Moby Arena

Dec. 16

  • College of Business-speaker: M. Caroline Turner. Provost Loren W. Crabtree will confer degrees and Melanie R. Middlemist, assistant professor of accounting, will give the charge to the class. Commencement exercises begin at 8:30 a.m. in Moby Arena
  • College of Engineering-speaker: George Promis, director of Technology Alliance, IBM Printing Systems Company. Engineering Dean Neal C. Gallagher will give the charge to the graduates. Commencement exercises begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom
  • College of Natural Sciences-speaker: Dr. Michael S. Swanson, President Women’s Health Consultants. Natural Sciences Dean John C. Raich will confer degrees. Commencement exercises begin at noon in Moby Arena
  • College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences-speaker: Barbara McCarthy, Colorado State assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Health. President Yates will confer degrees. Commencement exercises begin at noon in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom
  • College of Liberal Arts-speaker: Martin Bucco, Colorado State professor in the Department of English. President and CEO of Colorado State’s Research Foundation Kathleen Byington will confer degrees. Commencement exercises will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Moby Arena
  • College of Natural Resources-speaker: Holmes Rolston III, Colorado State professor of philosophy. President Yates will confer degrees and give the charge to the graduates. Commencement exercises will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom
  • College of Applied Human Sciences-speaker: Stephanie Clemons, Colorado State associate professor of Design and Merchandising and recipient of the college’s Year 2000 Outstanding Teacher Award. Interim Vice President of Student Affairs Grant Sherwood will confer degrees. Commencement exercises will begin at 7 p.m. in Moby Arena
  • College of Agricultural Sciences-speaker: David R. Ames, Colorado State professor of animal sciences. Anthony A. Frank, vice president for Research and Information Technology, will confer degrees. Commencement exercises will begin at 7 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom.
