Colorado State University Announces Fall 2002 Commencement Activities

Colorado State University will confer degrees on fall 2002 graduates at individual college ceremonies Dec. 20 and 21.

Diplomas will be given to 1,322 undergraduates and 308 graduate students, of which 62 are doctoral students. Fifteen students are summa cum laude, 41 will graduate magna cum laude and 83 will graduate cum laude. Following is a list of commencement speakers, starting times and locations for each college.

Dec. 20

  • ROTC Commissioning – speaker: Col. Deborah A. Baker, director of personnel, Headquarters Air Force Space Command. Commencement exercises begin at 3 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Theatre.
  • Graduate School – speaker: Rulon F. Stacey, president and CEO, Poudre Valley Health System. Colorado State President Albert C. Yates will confer degrees and A. Fred Kerst, member of the Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System, will provide concluding remarks. Commencement exercises begin at 7:30 p.m. in Moby Arena.

Dec. 21

  • College of Natural Resources – speaker: N. Thompson Hobbs, senior research scientist at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory. Colorado State Provost Peter J. Nicholls will confer degrees and give the charge to the class. Commencement exercises begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom.
  • College of Liberal Arts – speaker: President Albert C. Yates will confer degrees and give the charge to the class. Reginald L. Washington, Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System, will give congratulatory remarks. Commencement exercises begin at 8:30 a.m. in Moby Arena.
  • College of Agricultural Sciences – speaker: Ben Houston, Livestock Leader. President Albert C. Yates will confer degrees and give the charge to the class. Commencement exercises begin at noon in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom.
  • College of Applied Human Sciences – speaker: Jeff Christmann, 2002 Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate of the Last Decade. Provost Peter Nicholls will confer degrees and Nancy Hartley, dean of the College Applied Human Sciences, will give the thank-you from the college. Commencement exercises begin at noon in Moby Arena.
  • College of Engineering – speaker: Joseph Perl, president, CEO and board member of Mobilygen Corp. Anne Sjostrom, Colorado State alumna, will present the key rings and Anthony Frank, vice president for research and information technology, will give the charge to the class. Commencement exercises begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom.
  • College of Business – speaker: Charles M. Lillis, managing partner, LoneTree Capital. Linda Kuk, vice president for Student Affairs, will confer degrees and F.C. Weston, professor of computer information systems, will give the charge to the class. Commencement exercises begin at 3:30 p.m. in Moby Arena.
  • College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences – speaker: Marie Legare, assistant professor, Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences. Linda Kuk, vice president for Student Affairs, will confer degrees. Commencement exercises begin at 7 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom.
  • College of Natural Sciences – speaker: Jan Janura, member of the World Presidents’ Organization, co-founder of Carol Anderson Inc., Old Maui Brand and Home Merchants Group. Rick Miranda, dean of the College of Natural Sciences, will confer degrees. A. Fred Kerst, member of the Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System, and Associate Dean Janice Nerger will give closing remarks. Commencement exercises begin at 7 p.m. in Moby Arena.
