Fort Collins Community Homecoming 2004 Gears Up with 5k Race

The 2004 Community Homecoming Celebration will feature a 5K race at 8 a.m. Oct. 2 beginning on the Colorado State University Oval. The free Kid’s Fun Run will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Oval after the 5K.   

     Registration for the race is $17 prior to Sept. 24, $21 prior to Oct. 1 and $25 on race day. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. Race entry includes a long-sleeved T-shirt. First, second and third place finishers in each division will receive a handcrafted piece of pottery by a local artist. Whether running or walking for fun, everyone is encouraged to participate.

     Participants in the Kid’s Fun Run race can choose to run either a .3 mile or .7 mile course. All finishers will receive a ribbon.  

     "We are excited this year to be part of the "Healthy Kids Run Series" and hope to see lots of children at the Kids’ Fun Run to be held after the 5 K and just before the parade arrives at Laurel Street," said Sheri Linnell, race coordinator.

Proceeds from the race will support the Heart Disease Prevention Program of the Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory at Colorado State. The Heart Disease Prevention Program provides screenings for all risk factors of heart disease. The screening includes personal and family history, a maximal treadmill text, examination by a physician, blood lipid analysis, body composition and much more.

     Free parking will be available at Colorado State’s Lory Student Center parking lot. The Colorado State Oval will be closed to traffic from all direction on the morning of the race.
