Alcohol Task Force Invites Public to Oct. 21 Open Forum to Discuss Future of Alcohol at Hughes Stadium

The Colorado State University Alcohol Task Force subcommittee on the use of alcohol at Hughes Stadium invites the public to an open forum Oct. 21 from 7-9 p.m. in the Cherokee Park Room of the Lory Student Center. The forum will offer students, parents and community members the opportunity to provide opinions and suggestions to the subcommittee regarding the beer ban and the future of alcohol at Hughes.

A sign-up sheet will be provided at the open forum for all individuals who want to speak and provide suggestions and opinions to the subcommittee. The subcommittee requests that comments be limited to three minutes per person and be constructive in nature as the forum is arranged to allow members to gather public opinion regarding the issues as part of their charge to review polices, protocols and practices associated with alcohol use at Hughes Stadium.

In addition, all task force meetings, including subcommittee meetings, are open to the public, and time for public comment is provided at the end of each meeting. The Alcohol Task Force Web site at www.president.colostate.edu/alcohol_task_force also includes an online feedback form where students, parents, community members and anyone concerned with student-related alcohol issues can make comments and suggestions to the main task force committee or to specific subcommittees.

The subcommittee on the use of alcohol at Hughes Stadium review will include use within the stadium as well as within the parking areas and surrounding areas of the stadium before and after scheduled events. It will explore practices and policies of other athletic venues regarding alcohol use. The subcommittee will make appropriate recommendations regarding the future distribution, sales and use of alcoholic beverages, as well as alternatives in policing and enforcement that will foster a positive, safe and enjoyable environment for participating in collegiate sporting activities.
