Media Advisory: Student Volunteers Canvas Ft. Collins with Alcohol-Poisoning Prevention Information Wednesday

WHAT:      A Colorado State University student-run initiative via a large-scale student, Greek, faculty and community volunteer effort to canvas Fort Collins student-occupied communities, campus and businesses near the campus with alcohol poisoning-prevention information. The initiative is a memorial effort for students lost to alcohol-related deaths in Colorado this year. The students and other volunteers, along with President Larry Edward Penley, will hand deliver to students the Ace of Spades card, the creation of former Sigma Pi fraternity members at Colorado State. The free wallet cards list the signs and symptoms of alcohol overdose on the back and display an ace of spades on the front in tribute to Samantha Spady, a student who died of alcohol poisoning earlier in the semester. The cards also encourage students to pledge to take care of themselves and others and to take action if they see someone they suspect has overdosed on alcohol.

WHEN/

WHERE:      10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 15th. Student volunteers will hand out cards to students in locations on campus including the plaza, bookstore, student center food court and library as well as target 25 neighborhoods where students typically live, and businesses along College Avenue and Campus West. Cards will also be delivered to students living in residence halls and Greek houses.

DETAILS:     Cards will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in two shifts. President Penley will help distribute the cards from 10:25 to 11 a.m. in the Lory Student Center Food Court.
