Lockheed Martin Vice President Honored as Colorado State University Distinguished Alumnus

The vice president of Lockheed Martin’s Space Based Radar program has been named the 2005 Honor Alumnus for Colorado State University’s College of Natural Sciences. Donald G. DeGryse will receive the honor at the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner on April 29.  

DeGryse received his doctorate in mathematics from Colorado State University in 1975. He joined Lockheed Martin in 1981 and has held numerous positions, including his current position as vice president and program manager for the Space Based Radar program in Denver. From 2000-2002, DeGryse served as vice president of business acquisition and vice president of flight systems, both with the space systems line of Lockheed Martin. In 2002, he served as vice president of business development and advanced programs for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company.

"The education that Dr. Donald DeGryse received at Colorado State University has built the foundation for a distinguished career that, in turn, serves as a model for our students to emulate," said Rick Miranda, dean of the College of Natural Sciences.

During his tenure at Lockheed Martin, DeGryse has received numerous awards including the High Performance Work Team Award in 1995, the Operations Achievement Award in 1991 and the Technical Achievement Award in 1984.

DeGryse received a bachelor’s from Augustana College and masters and doctorate degrees in mathematics from Colorado State. He served as professor of mathematics at Bowling Green State University and Gonzaga University prior to entering the defense systems industry.

He has completed several company and government-sponsored programs including the Executive Management Course at Defense Systems Management College in 1996 and the Harvard Business School executive management program in 1986. DeGryse is currently an Executive Mentor at Lockheed Martin. He also is a chairman of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for the Rocky Mountain region and a member of the Engineering Advisory Board at Colorado State.

DeGryse and his wife, Shari, have two children, Kevan and Brian.
