Colorado State Professor Named Chairman of Statistics

Colorado State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Jay Breidt as chairman of the Department of Statistics.

Breidt has taught at Colorado State since January 2001. He obtained his master’s and doctorate degrees from Colorado State in 1989 and 1991, respectively. Prior to joining the Colorado State faculty, he served as an associate professor at Iowa State University.

"I look forward to working closely with Jay in the coming years. He has an excellent grasp of the issues facing the department and the college, and is well positioned to lead the department with some vigor," said Rick Miranda, dean of the College of Natural Sciences. "I also want to thank Richard Davis for his eight years of service as Statistics Chair, which saw excellent progress in every dimension of their mission, and which culminated last year in the department being named a Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence."

Breidt was named an American Statistical Association fellow last year and has received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the association’s Section on Statistics and the Environment. He has his bachelor’s degree from The College of Idaho.

Davis has taught at Colorado State since 1981. He was named Alumni Faculty of the Year in 1986 and is a fellow with the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
