Pete Coors is Capstone Speaker at Colorado State’s 27th Annual Business Day

Pete Coors, chairman of Coors Brewing Company and vice chairman of Molson Coors Brewing Company, will be the capstone speaker at Business Day at Colorado State University on March 1.

Coors will speak at 1:30 p.m. in the Lory Student Center East Ballroom. The event, sponsored by the College of Business, is free and open to the public.

Business Day, a chance for students to learn from influential business people, was developed in 1979 by the Business College Council in cooperation with the Associated Students of Colorado State University. Past speakers have included the late President Ronald Reagan, then governor of California; Samuel Addoms, chief executive officer of Frontier Airlines; and Malcom Forbes.

This year’s Business Day features talks by 14 other prominent business leaders in Colorado and a luncheon. Reservations for the luncheon are required by Thursday, Feb. 23, by calling (970) 491-5325. Cost is $13.25 per person.

All events take place in the Lory Student Center unless otherwise noted.

Other speakers during the day range from Art Zimmer, senior vice president and portfolio manager with OppenheimerFunds Inc., whose group manages more than $10 billion in leveraged loan investments, to Sandy Mazarakis, CEO of Mazarakis and Associates, which provides integrated learning systems for organizations. She will discuss the impact of combining different generations at work.

Coors was born in Golden and graduated from Cornell University in 1969 with a bachelor’s in industrial engineering. In 1970, he received his M.B.A. from the University of Denver. His career in the brewing business follows a family tradition that has spanned more than a century and five generations of Coors family members.

In addition, Coors has been actively involved in the community including service as a member of the National Western Stock Show Association executive committee, Colorado Uplift and the International Chapter of Young Presidents Organization. He provides additional assistance as an executive board member for Boy Scouts of America Denver Area Council and as a board member of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

Coors is last on the Business Day program. A full schedule of events is available at http://www.biz.colostate.edu/news/businessday.htm.
