Five Satellite Exhibitions Complement 15th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibit

Posters representing unique historical and geographical subjects will be on display in five satellite galleries as a part of the 15th biennial Colorado International Poster Exhibition hosted by the Department of Art in the School of the Arts at Colorado State University. The highlight of this year’s satellite exhibitions is an exhibition of posters in the Glass Gallery that commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Soviet Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster.

Phil Risbeck, professor of art at Colorado State, recently visited the Chernobyl site with an international team of graphic designers. The magnitude of what he saw there and his decades-long dedication to affirm the interrelatedness of the human experience through art inspired him to organize a special display at Colorado State of posters by various designers as part of the 15th Colorado International Poster Exhibition.

At the Lincoln Center in downtown Fort Collins, the Laureate Exhibition will feature the work of Fang Chen, associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania and honor laureate of the 15th Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition. The Lincoln Center also will host the Directors and High School exhibitions.

Asian designers will be featured in First National Bank Gallery at Colorado State’s Morgan Library, with an opening reception at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 11. Select posters from past Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibitions will be on display at Front Range Community College. At the University Center for the Arts on Remington Street, past submissions of performing arts posters will be on display in the lobby of the Edna Rizley Griffin Concert Hall.

An online component to the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition, entitled Graphic Responses, will feature works from graphic artists from around the world and from Colorado State students based on their visual responses to current world events. These works will be on display in the Directions Gallery in the Visual Arts Building at Colorado State.

The biennial Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition hosted by the Department of Art in the School of the Arts at Colorado State University is the only exhibition of its kind in the United States. This year’s program will feature works of 87 artists from 31 countries reflecting international perspectives on political, social and cultural issues.
