The Great Sofa Round-Up at Colorado State July 27-28 Gives Second Life to Sofas

Start rounding up the weary, the tired and the unwanted. The Great Sofa Round-Up is back.

Scheduled to coincide with the majority of lease renewals, the Great Sofa Round-Up will take place on Friday, July 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Saturday, July 28, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will take place at the Colorado State University visitor’s parking lot north of Lake Street on College.

Sofas can be dropped off or claimed for free during the Great Sofa Round-Up. Residents also can arrange for curbside pick-up by calling (970) 224-6046; however, space is limited. Sofas rounded up for this event are available to students, neighbors or social agencies in need of a free sofa. There is a limit of one sofa per person.

The collaborative event involves staff from departments in the city of Fort Collins and at Colorado State. Part of the incentive for this event is to help clean up neighborhoods and prevent indoor furniture from cluttering yards, streets and curbsides. People leaving sofas in alleys, on unenclosed porches or in the middle of lawns are in violation of city codes.

During the 2006 Great Sofa Round-Up, more than 600 sofas were collected with more than half of those going to new homes.
