20th Range Beef Cow Symposium Dec. 11-13 Hosted by Colorado State University

Cattle ranchers and others associated with the cattle industry will hear the latest information and updates for their business at the upcoming Range Beef Cow Symposium December 11-13 in Loveland, Colo.

Topics will include industry issues, beef consumer products and marketing, cow-calf nutrition, management practices, reproductive management, animal health, cattle selection and genetics, range and forage management, and markets and marketing.

Past rancher participants have referred to the Range Beef Cow Symposium as in-service training. This year’s program, as in previous years, will provide producer-relevant, science-based information from nationally and internationally known speakers.

This year’s symposium speakers include:

>Andy Gottschalk, senior vice president from RJ O’Brien and Associates, speaking on the impact of the U.S. corn/ethanol policy on the U.S. cattle industry.

>Terry Klopfenstein of the University of Nebraska will use the past 40 years of research to help cow-calf producers put together a production system that is best for their individual circumstances.

>Doc and Connie Hatfield of Country Natural Beef will discuss the beef marketing program they have developed that connects ranching families to retail markets.

>Numerous other speakers will present up-to-date information on topics related to cow-calf production and marketing.

The evening "Bull Pen Sessions" are considered by past participants to be the most valuable part of the symposium. It is a discussion time for attendees to ask specific questions of the speakers, and also a time for dialogue among producers in comparable situations. In addition to the speaker and Bull Pen Sessions, commercial displays representing many segments of the industry are an integral part of the symposium. Exhibitors will be present to discuss their products and provide information on newly released products.

The 20th Range Beef Cow Symposium is sponsored by Colorado State University’s Department of Animal Science, South Dakota State University’s Department of Animal Science, Colorado State University Extension, South Dakota State University Cooperative Extension, the University of Wyoming and the University of Nebraska.

The biennial symposium has a reputation of being an excellent educational program, offering practical production management information since the first symposium in Chadron, Neb., in 1969.
