Supply Distribution Day for Colorado State’s Cans Around the Oval is Sept. 17

Supply distribution day for Colorado State University’s 21st annual Cans Around the Oval will run from 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Individuals and groups can pick up food-drive kits that include food collection boxes, flyers, neighborhood maps, information packets, and team-challenge forms at the Associated Students of Colorado State University Senate Chambers on the main level of the Lory Student Center. The supplies will then be used for neighborhood canvassing throughout Fort Collins and the Colorado State campus community.

Cans Around the Oval is the largest single-day food drive in Northern Colorado. Last year, more than 127,000 pounds of food was raised for the Food Bank for Larimer County. The 21-year tradition has created unity among the Colorado State and Fort

Collins communities to fight local hunger.

In Northern Colorado alone, more than 40,000 people depend upon the Food Bank’s services to alleviate hunger. Colorado State students, faculty and staff find imaginative and effective ways to collect canned foods and raise awareness about hunger. Food Bank representatives say that the initiative is integral to the success of their year-round food sharing efforts.

This year’s Cans Around the Oval will take place from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, when all the donated food is collected. During the day, the canned food is weighed and arranged to line the Oval, a visual representation of the invaluable generosity of the communities involved.

Cans Around the Oval is sponsored by the Office of Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement, or SLiCE. SLiCE works collaboratively with students, staff, faculty and the community to offer a broad range of service and leadership opportunities for student involvement.
