Annual Homecoming Race Slated to Start at Colorado State University Oval

The Department of Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University celebrates 28 years of the Annual Homecoming 5K race this fall. The race will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the university’s Oval.

Walkers and runners of all ages are encouraged to participate, and families may bring kids to run for free in the kid’s fun run. The kid’s fun run is part of the Healthy Kid’s Club run series. The race has a flat course and will weave through Colorado State’s campus before ending back at the Oval. The race concludes in time for participants to enjoy the rest of Homecoming festivities.

The Homecoming 5K was the largest race in Fort Collins last year with more than 1,500 people attending. In 2007, more than $45,000 was raised for the Heart Disease Prevention Program of the Human Performance Clinical and Research Lab at Colorado State. The Heart Disease Prevention Program provides the opportunity for individuals be screened for risk factors for heart disease and take preventative measures.

Prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each age group for gender, and attendance prizes also are given. Food and drinks for all participants are provided.

Adult admission is $20 for early registration by 5 p.m. Oct.3, $25 for late registration by 5 p.m. on Oct. 10 and $30 for race-day registration. Children age 12 and under may participate in the 5K at a discounted rate. This year also will be the second annual Residence Hall Challenge. The hall with the most participants in the race will win a trophy engraved with the name of the hall and a pizza party. A discount is awarded to groups of 20 or more; members should register in Room 220 Moby B-Complex.
