A special benefit showing of the Coen brother’s cult movie classic, "The Big Lebowski," will celebrate the life of Rebecca Allen. Allen, undergraduate program administrator for the Department of Journalism and Technical Communication at Colorado State University, was killed July 22 in an auto-bike collision.
The showing is scheduled for dusk at about 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at New Belgium Brewery, 500 Linden St. in Fort Collins. Admission is $2. A warm blanket and jacket are suggested.
Proceeds from the two-hour outdoor screening will benefit the Rebecca Allen Memorial Scholarship as well as the Fort Collins Cycling community. The scholarship will support students in the department’s television news and video communication concentration. Allen was a 2002 cum laude graduate of the CSU program.
Students and friends are encouraged to ride bikes to the event. The event was added to New Belgium’s Bike-In Cinema series to honor Allen, an avid bicyclist and prominent member of the biking community in Fort Collins. A short video before the film will highlight the city of Fort Collins’ bicycle awareness program.
The popular 1998 comedy, "The Big Lebowski," was one of Allen’s favorite movies.
