Colorado State University Homecoming Festival Open to the Community

A night of Colorado State University tradition continues with the CSU Homecoming Festival to be held from 6:30-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, on the west lawn of the Lory Student Center.

The festival will follow the CSU Homecoming Parade on Friday evening. Attendees will enjoy music, games, food, student displays and the activities of Ram Town. The evening will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a pep rally featuring Steve Fairchild, football head coach; Tom Hilbert, volleyball head coach; and members of the football team and nationally ranked volleyball team. Student performances and the bonfire will begin at 8 p.m. The evening will culminate with a fireworks show and lighting of the "A."

There is no charge to attend the Homecoming Festival; however, a $15 per person registration fee covers the cost of dinner, drinks and dessert, with plenty of options for the whole family. Tickets are available at the Campus Box Office in the Lory Student Center or online at http://csutix.com. Box Office hours are Mon.-Fri. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tickets are available through October 10.

A bit of Caribbean culture will be infused into the festival. The CSU Steel Band will be playing at the event. The band is one of the most unique and exciting groups on campus. The group, comprised of students from the music department, features steel drums and percussion led by Don Prorak. The band’s repertoire is rooted in the culture of Trinidad and Tobago, but ventures into all styles of music.

This year, Canstruction will be a part of Homecoming. Canstruction is a CSU tradition that coincides with Cans Around the Oval, Larimer County’s largest food drive, which is in its 21st year. Canstruction gives students, faculty and staff a chance to compete using their creativity to sculpt cans from the food drive into whatever they can imagine. This year, Canstruction is doubling in size and doubling the size of the cans required. Twenty Canstruction projects this year will be required to include 1,000 cans or more. The event will take place in the Morgan Library parking lot from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10.
