Colorado State University’s Summer Youth Sport Camps Taking Registrations

The lazy days of summer don’t have to be so lazy thanks to Colorado State University’s Summer Youth Sport Camps. The camps, sponsored by the Department of Health and Exercise Science in the College of Applied Human Sciences, are now open for registration for summer.

The program offers activities for every ability and interest. Participants can choose among several week-long camps that cater to their interests. For sports-oriented youngsters, camps are available in baseball, basketball, inline hockey, soccer and volleyball. For kids who want to try a variety of sports in one week, a field sports camp is available for participants to experience a different sport each day.

A two-week long Super Sports Camp is offered for those who want to experience a sport as well as other activities such as roller skating, indoor rock climbing and movies. Daily swimming lessons and a field trip are also included in the Super Sports Camp.

Children can get an educational outlook on an active lifestyle by participating in the Fun LIFE camp, or Learning to Improve Fitness and Eating. This week-long camp is designed to educate participants in nutrition, fitness and healthy lifestyles. Participants will also enjoy field and team games, yoga, hiking, swimming and other outdoor lifelong pursuits.

A new program for the 2009 sports camp is the Music and Movement camp. This non-contact camp promotes exercise through rhythmic movement and music with added kickboxing and martial arts movements and tumbling.

The 11-week day-camp program is used to promote healthy lifestyles among children. The 2009 camp season begins on Monday, June 1, and ends on Friday, Aug. 14. Camps run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday with before-and-after care available for a small fee.

All camps are $150 for one week, with discounts available for multiple weeks or multiple campers within the same family. Super Sports camp is a two-week camp and the cost is $280, with discounts also available for multiple camp registration or family members. A complete schedule is available at http://hes.cahs.colostate.edu/CommunityPrograms/YSC/PDF/2009camps.pdf.

Enrollment is limited. A $5 per session discount is available for those who register before May 9. To register for the camps, see www.hes.cahs.colostate.edu/ysc or register in person at 201A Moby B Complex.
