Colorado State Political Science Professor Discusses Climate Change Politics April 9

Researchers the world over are working hard on scientific and technical responses to climate change, but what is being done politically as nation, a state and a community? How well is science informing policy on all these levels? With a new administration, what is the United States doing regarding the Kyoto Protocol negotiations? What roles do fundamental values such as fairness, risk and the relationship between the environment and economy play in these matters?

Professor Michele Betsill, an international policy expert in Colorado State University’s Department of Political Science, will walk through the broad landscape of climate change policy making, discussing these and other questions, to get a general sense of how society is confronting large climate change issues.

Her talk, "Climate Change Politics and Policy Making," will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the North Ballroom of Lory Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Professor Betsill’s presentation is part of an ongoing lecture series, Climate Change:  What We All Need to Know, which looks at this enormous global challenge from many different points of view.
