Colorado State University Annual Homecoming Race Set for Oct. 10

Celebrating 29 years, the 2009 Colorado State University Homecoming 5K will benefit the Heart Disease Prevention Program of the Human Performance Clinical and Research Laboratory at Colorado State University. The race will start at 8 a.m. Oct. 10 on the CSU Oval.

Walkers and runners of all ages from the CSU, Fort Collins and Colorado communities are encouraged to participate. A free Kids Fun Run will take place after the 5K around 9 a.m. The Kids Run is the sixth race in the 11th annual “Healthy Kids Run Series” sponsored by the Healthy Kids Club of the Poudre Valley Health System. Both the 5K and the Kids Run wind through a flat course on the CSU campus.

The 2008 Homecoming 5K hosted more than 1,800 participants and raised $50,000 for the Heart Disease Prevention Program. The program provides screening for heart disease risk factors. Individuals are evaluated on a number of factors including family history, a maximal treadmill test, a physician examination and blood lipid analysis.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age division. Participant prizes are also awarded during the closing ceremony. Food and drinks for all participants will be provided following the race.

Adult fee is $20 for pre-registration by 4 p.m. Oct. 2; $25 for late pre-registration by 4 p.m. Oct. 9; and $30 on race day. Children 12 and under can pre-register for $18 until 4 p.m. Oct. 2.

CSU’s on-campus students are challenged to participate in the Homecoming 5K through the Residence Hall Challenge. The residence hall floor with the highest percentage of participants will be awarded a traveling trophy and a pizza party for the hall. Groups of 20 or more receive a discount on their registration fees.

The Heart Disease Prevention Program of the Human Performance Clinical and Research Lab is part of the Department of Health and Exercise Science. The Department of Health and Exercise Science is in the College of Applied Human Sciences at Colorado State University.
