Colorado State University Celebrates Veterans Day Nov. 11

Colorado State University will honor U.S. veterans during this year’s Veterans Day events Wednesday, Nov. 11. Events will be held at the Lory Student Center to honor and remember those who have served in the U.S. military.

Events at CSU celebrating Veterans Day include:

– Renowned Authors, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Lory Student Center Plaza.
Several veteran-related organizations will be represented at the event. Also, Jim Sheeler, the author of "Final Salute," and Tony and Janet Seahorn, the authors of "Tears of a Warrior," will be attending. The CSU Student Veterans of America student organization will be selling hotdogs for $1 to raise money for future activities.

– CSU women in the military, from noon- 1 p.m. at Lory Student Center Room 214. A panel of CSU students who are military veterans (or currently serving in the U.S. military from a variety of branches) will talk about their experiences as women in the military as well as their experiences transitioning between military and college life. One of the panel facilitators, Ann Ingala, is also an army veteran from the first Gulf War. The Women at Noon presentation is co-sponsored with Adult Learner and Veteran Services.

– Veterans in higher education, from 7-9 p.m. at Lory Student Center West Ballroom. A panel discussion, "Contemporary issues of student veterans in higher education," will be hosted by Adult Learner and Veterans Services to discuss current needs of student veterans.

Panel members are representative from Congresswoman Betsy Markey’s office; Colorado State Representative John Kefalas; Colorado State Representative B.J. Nikkel; Bill Doe, associate dean of the Warner College of Natural Resources and coordinator of the Veteran’s Green Job Alliance at CSU; and Christy Jacks, president of the CSU Student Veterans Group.

The public is welcome to attend and a $5 suggested donation at the door will go toward the Veteran Success Fund at Colorado State.
