Colorado State Students Using Carpools to Go Green

Off-Campus Life at Colorado State University has created a new website called Rideshare that gives CSU students, faculty, and staff the ability to make potential carpool arrangements quickly and securely. The goal of CSU Rideshare is to help users find rides, save money, reduce pollution and traffic congestion, and encourage greener transportation choices.

The website – www.rideshare.colostate.edu – is active. Once logged on, riders can choose to create trips in categories such as the airport, the ski slopes, entertainment venues, work, class, and any other destinations that they may need.

“For this past fall break, there were students creating and joining posts to carpool to the airport. It’s great to see it already being used,” said Jerick Flores, an employee at Off-Campus Life.

The service has grown since its early days as merely a bulletin board in the Lory Student Center basement. Many requests were sent to the office of Off-Campus Life to create a new, modern program that would allow students to join carpools together. The program also supports CSU’s goals in environmental sustainability by creating an outlet for students to be more environmentally friendly.
