Colorado State Working to Build a Career Network Path for Alumni and Future Graduates

More than 150 Colorado State University students will come to Denver and meet with business representatives from various industries to gain connections that will give them job and internship insight through the CSU Alumni Association’s Professional Mixer. The event, hosted by the Alumni Association’s Denver office, is at 5:30 p.m. Tues., Feb. 16 at Colorado Business Bank, 821 17th St. in Denver.

The Professional Mixer, held twice a year, has two objectives – expose students to business executives to learn firsthand about various career markets and to provide a professional networking opportunity among alumni and business leaders.

Last year the event drew more than 300 students and professionals. The event is segmented and is for business professionals only from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and is for business professionals and students from 6:30-8 p.m.

"This professional mixer always draws a diverse group of professionals with a strong common connection: Colorado State University,” said Amanda Thompson, executive chair of the volunteer-based Professional Development Committee. “While all professionals will benefit from this event, recent and future graduates will have an opportunity to build a strong network in Denver, connect to individuals within their career field, or find a new career opportunity.”

The economy and job market are very challenging, if not discouraging to future graduates.

“It is an obligation the Alumni Association has to its alums to help them succeed after graduation. Lifelong learning may sound like a cliché, but it is a role alumni associations must play to continue to build the value of an alum’s degree,” said Paul Wolansky, CSU’s senior alumni director.

The event features an open venue for networking, as well as industry tables that attendees can target based on their field of interest. CSU alumni professionals may attend the mixer at 5:30 p.m. for an hour of professional-to-professional networking. CSU students will join the alumni and business representatives at 6:30 p.m.

CSU is still looking for professionals in all areas to participate, especially in the industries of health care, real estate and journalism. The event is free, but attendees are asked to register at the CSU Alumni Association Web site rams5280.colostate.edu and go to events.
