The Legends of Ranching sale is produced annually by CSU equine science students. The sale is a collaboration of three university classes focused on experiential based learning. The classes are horse training and sale preparation, equine sales management and equine event management.

This year, more than 60 CSU students devoted a semester or more to provide a high-quality sale.

“I feel privileged to be able to work with such influential people in the industry and to have the opportunity to work with such high quality, athletic horses,” said Equine Science student Vanessa Baron.

Gary Carpenter, CSU equine science director of Industry Relations and Outreach, said the Legends of Ranching sale is a great opportunity to learn more about the program and its students. “I’m so proud of the sale. It puts us in the leadership role. It gives our students an opportunity to have a real life experience that is unique in the context of education,” he said.

Last year’s high-selling horse, a 2006 gelding from Cowan Select Horses, sold for $19,500. The overall average for the 2009 Legends of Ranching Performance Horse Sale was $4,308.
