Media Advisory: Colorado State University and Beijing Normal University to Sign International Memorandum of Understanding

WHAT: In recognition of their mutual education and scholarly interests, Colorado State University and Beijing Normal University will sign an International Memorandum of Understanding.

WHO: CSU representatives who will attend the signing are Tony Frank, president; Rick Miranda, provost and executive vice president; Bill Farland, vice president for Research; Jim Cooney, vice provost for International Affairs; Joyce Berry, dean of the Warner College of Natural Resources; Mike Manfredo, department head Human Dimensions of Natural Resources; Martha Denney, director of International Education; Wei Gao, director of China Initiatives; and manager of Strategic Initiatives in International Programs, Chad Hoseth.

Beijing Normal University representatives are Peijun Shi, vice president; Ming Wang, associate professor and director of Institute of Integrated Risk; and Andreas Rechkemmer, professor.

WHEN: Noon on April 20, 1010.

WHERE: President’s Office North Conference Room in the Administration Building on the CSU campus.

DETAILS: Beijing Normal University and CSU share expertise and interests in critical issues of sustainability, climate change, loss of biodiversity and land degradation which are further intertwined with issues of development and poverty reduction.

Details of the IMOU agreement include:

  • A core focus on international human dimensions of global change and integrated risk governance
  • Rocky Mountain Initiative – a program intended to promote integration among the social sciences addressing climate change.
  • Multilateral dialog of the Millennium Development Goals, set by the United Nations, as they pertain to global change.

Beijing Normal University has a history of more than 100 years, nearly as long as the history of Chinese modern education. The university emphasizes exchange and cooperation with educational institutions nationally, regionally and internationally.
