Media Advisory: School is Cool Volunteers to Stuff Backpacks and Distribute School Supplies

For the 19th consecutive year, Colorado State University volunteers will stuff backpacks with school supplies for Poudre School District K-12 students. This year, the School is Cool program will distribute about 2,500 backpacks to students in need.

WHEN: Backpacks will be stuffed with school supplies 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11. Backpacks will be distributed to Poudre School District schools 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12.

WHERE: Johnson Hall, Room 222 on the Colorado State University campus. Johnson Hall is directly east of the Administration Building on East Drive.

DETAILS: An estimated 2,500 backpacks will be filled with pens, paper, folders and more for distribution to Poudre School District schools. The filled backpacks will be delivered to Poudre principals and counselors at elementary, middle and high schools who determine the recipients. Families interested in obtaining School Is Cool supplies should contact their home school directly. Backpacks are not available through CSU. This year’s effort is supported by the Fort Collins-based Bohemian Foundation, which donated $7,500 for scientific calculators for all middle school students. Additional in-kind donations are provided by the Colorado State University Bookstore. Since 1991, School is Cool has provided supplies to more than 21,000 local students.
