Colorado State University President Tony Frank will deliver his first Fall Address on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the university’s historic Oval. He will address the state of the university and the vision for the institution for the coming year and beyond.

As part of his presentation to the campus community, Frank will address the state’s higher education challenges and potential impacts at Colorado State. The university community is invited to gather at the Oval at 11:15 a.m. with the Colorado State Marching Band. Frank will begin his comments at 11:30 a.m. from the south end of the Oval. Concluding the Fall Address will be the National Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation by Fort Collins Mayor Doug Hutchinson.

Immediately following the address will be the annual all-university picnic, a long-standing tradition for the campus community celebrating and promoting the spirit of Colorado State University. Picnic entertainment will be provided by Fleur de Cana, a Colorado salsa band performing as part of the National Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff sponsored by ASAP, El Centro and Multicultural Greek Council.

The President’s Fall Address and University Picnic was first held in September 1997 as a thank-you to the university community for pulling together in the aftermath of a devastating flood. The event has been a university tradition ever since.

This year, the event will feature opportunities for faculty, students and employees to engage and learn about CSU’s Commitment to Campus. Information about CSU’s upcoming Diversity Conference, featuring NewsHour senior correspondent Ray Suarez, also will be highlighted.

University classes will not be canceled, but departments are encouraged to arrange schedules to accommodate those who wish to attend. The Oval will be closed to traffic and parking throughout the day.

In addition to the Fall Address and university picnic, CSU on Sept. 15 will also hold the grand opening of its new Behavioral Sciences Building. The ceremony with formal remarks will be held at 2 p.m.
