Colorado State University Natural Sciences Professor Laureate to Speak about Artificial Intelligence Nov. 10

Adele Howe, a Colorado State University professor of computer science, will present her 2010 Professor Laureate lecture on “Artificial Intelligence: Fact vs. Fiction” on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

Her talk will be 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Room 130 of the Computer Science Building on the Fort Collins campus.

Howe is best known for her research in the area of artificial intelligence. She is on the advisory board for the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, one of the first electronic scientific journals to publish peer-reviewed research articles and a member of the Executive Council for the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.

Howe was also selected to be part of the highly competitive Defense Science Study Group 2000-2001, a program dedicated to understanding the rapidly evolving technology and defense needs of national security. She also served as the program co-chair for Twenty-Second Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 2007, the top general conference in artificial intelligence.

Professor Laureate is the highest academic title awarded by the College of Natural Sciences to select faculty for their career accomplishments. The title provides recipients an honorarium and two years of resources for student projects. The title remains for three years, is not renewable, and the award is relinquished upon retirement or transitional retirement.
