Colorado State University Welcomes ‘Twilight’ Star Chaske Spencer as Native American Heritage Month Keynote Speaker Nov. 11

“Twilight” star Chaske Spencer will visit the Colorado State University campus as the keynote speaker for Native American Heritage Month at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Lory Student Center East and Middle Ballrooms.

Spencer, an actor from the “Twilight” saga and a Native American activist, will speak candidly about overcoming his addiction to drugs and alcohol in hopes of empowering young people to make the shift to a more positive and productive lifestyle. He is a descendent of the Lakota Sioux Nation.

Admission to this event is free with a CSU ID and $3 for the general public. Tickets are now available at the CSU Box Office in the Lory Student Center, by calling (970) 491-6444 or online at www.csutix.com.

Since overcoming his addictions, Spencer has become a spokesperson for “Be The Shift,” an organization which raises awareness and resources for building sustainable communities, reducing poverty and alcohol and substance abuse in Native American communities.

The “Twilight” series is internationally popular. Based on the books by Stephanie Meyer about vampires and werewolves in modern society, the movies have grossed more than $1.7 billion worldwide. In the films, Spencer plays Sam Uley, leader of the werewolves.

Native American Heritage Month is an opportunity to recognize the significant contributions Native Americans have made to the United States and to celebrate their rich and diverse history.

The event is sponsored by Campus Activities, Native American Cultural Center, Lilla B. Morgan Fund, Patents Fund and the Department of Ethnic Studies.

Staff at Campus Activities provide campus-wide programming as part of the Lory Student Center at Colorado State University. They seek to increase inclusivity in their programs and provide a voice for underrepresented groups on campus through concerts, lectures, comedians, films and other programs for the students of CSU.
