The National Association of Educational Procurement, the nationwide organization focused exclusively on procurement in higher education, has awarded Farrah Bustamante, strategic sourcing specialist at Colorado State University, with the Young Professional in Procurement Award.

The award was presented at a ceremony at the association’s 91st annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif.

Bustamante was honored with an award that recognizes young professionals who have made valuable contributions to the education procurement industry. She currently serves on the association’s Membership Committee and on its Editorial Board in the acquisitions and development of articles for the NAEP Journal of Educational Procurement, where her own work has been published.

“Farrah has been assigned most of our complex procurements that we categorize as strategic partnerships,” said Lynn Johnson, CSU’s chief financial officer, who helped nominate her for the award. “Farrah has always maintained a high level of professionalism and retained her impartial position as our leader through the procurement process. She is a pleasure to work with and sought out by others when difficult circumstances arise.”

Bustamante has served as Rocky Mountain regional vice president and facilitated educational sessions at both national and regional NAEP meetings. At CSU, she has led green-purchasing initiatives, including founding an annual Green Market Vendor Fair on campus. In the region, she is involved with the Rocky Mountain Governmental Purchasing Association (a chapter of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing) and chairs their Chapter Enhancement Committee.

Bustamante was recently notified by the University Public Procurement Certification Council that she had received the Certified Professional Public Buyer (CBBP) credential. The CPPB certification recognizes only those professionals who have fulfilled prescribed standards of competency in public procurement.
