Colorado State University’s Hui `O Hawai`i Club Presents Annual Lu`au on April 29

For 25 years, members of the student organization, Hui `O Hawai`i, at Colorado State University have coordinated and hosted the annual lu`au to share and celebrate the Hawaiian culture. On Sunday, April 29, the Main Ballroom of the Lory Student Center will be transformed into an island paradise, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

The annual lu`au includes a night of traditional Hawaiian music, dance and food. Event decorations are also flown in from Hawai`i to make the event as authentic as possible.

"The Lu`au is symbolic in Hawai`i as a time to celebrate and renew our connections with family and friends,” said club co-advisor Grace Wilson. “The CSU Hui `O Hawai`i Club hosts the annual Lu`au as a way for our students to extend those connections to `ohana in Northern Colorado by sharing our culture of Polynesian dance, Hawaiian food and the Aloha spirit.”

Guests will indulge in traditional Lu`au foods including Kalua pork (Hawaiian pulled pork), lomi lomi (salmon), chicken long rice, vegetable curry, poi, Haupia (Hawaiian coconut dessert) and pineapple.

The Lu`au will take place in Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center Main Ballroom. Doors will open at 4 p.m.; show starts at 5 p.m. The event itself will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for this event are sold at the Campus Box Office at the Lory Student Center or can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. Adult tickets are $22, children 5 to 12 years old are $18 and children under 5 years old are free of charge.

"The Lu`au is an opportunity to bring the Hawaiian culture to Colorado and share a bit of what makes us unique. Through the food and the performances, we are able to spread the Aloha spirit on campus and have a blast while doing it,” said Hui ‘O Hawai`i Club treasurer Taryn Chock.

Over the years, Hui ‘O Hawai`i has brought together people from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, and Northern Colorado communities to celebrate the Hawaiian culture and aloha.

Hui ‘O Hawai`i also aims to assist new students in their adjustment to college life and life away from home. The club coordinates:
• winter clothing shopping trips
• potlucks
• volunteer activities
• intramural sports participation
