Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: CSU’s Cans Around the Oval Celebrates 26 Years Tomorrow

Colorado State University’s 26th annual Cans Around the Oval will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 on the historic CSU Oval.

DETAILS:

As part of Collection Day, CSU President Tony Frank will give remarks at 10 a.m. and place the first few cans around the Oval.

As the largest one-day food drive in northern Colorado, CSU partners with the Food Bank for Larimer County to raise food and monetary donations to help those in need in the community. Last year alone, Cans Around the Oval collected 66,900 pounds of food and $34,038 in donations.

Cans Around the Oval helps more than 40,000 people who depend on the Food Bank for Larimer County. The donations from this one collection day can help these individuals for up to four months.

The event encourages businesses, community groups, organizations and residents to register online at www.slice.colostate.edu. Registered groups host their own food drives until collection day, Oct. 17, where donations are received and counted on the Oval at CSU and recognition is given to top donors and collectors. Food and monetary donations also will be accepted throughout the day at the Oval.

Cans Around the Oval is hosted by the Student Leadership, Involvement, and Community Engagement office at CSU. The SLiCE office’s mission is to maximize student potential through high quality, innovative programs and services.
