Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: CSU’s Ag Adventure Partners with City of Fort Collins for Event Tomorrow

Colorado State University students will lead a special Ag Adventure program at The Farm at Lee Martinez Park, and they hope youngsters who attend will learn that “food is much more than a grocery store.”

WHEN:
The Ag Adventure will run 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 10.

DETAILS:
About 20 students in CSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences will lead hands-on learning stations at The Farm; animals living there will be part of the presentations. It will be the first time the college’s trademark Ag Adventure program will be showcased in cooperation with the city of Fort Collins Recreation. Admission is free.

“We want children who attend to understand their food doesn’t come from the grocery store. It comes from the farm,” said Yvonne Rosas, a CSU junior in animal science who is helping to organize the event.

Learning stations will focus on dairy cattle, beef cattle, pigs, sheep, poultry, horses, crops and tractors. Hay rides also will be offered.

“We’ll have an enhanced version of The Farm that day. It’s going to be a great day,” said Bridget Brownell, recreation supervisor at The Farm.

CSU students organizing the event are doing so as part of a class called “Ag Outreach,” which encourages collegians to teach agricultural literacy in their communities.
