Pulitzer Prize Columnist to Present Monfort Lecture at Colorado State University Jan. 31

Ten days after the presidential inauguration, George F. Will, Pulitzer Prize winner and Washington Post columnist, will speak at Colorado State University at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at Moby Arena. His lecture, “The Political Argument Today,” will be followed by a moderated question-and-answer session.

Will’s lecture is supported by the Monfort Family Foundation as part of the Monfort Lecture Series at Colorado State. This is the 10th anniversary of the Monfort Excellence Fund.

The doors to Moby Arena will open at 5:30 p.m. Information about ticket sales will be announced in January.

In 1977, Will won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in his newspaper columns, which have been syndicated by The Washington Post since 1974. Eight collections of Will’s Newsweek and Washington Post columns have been published, the most recent being One Man’s America. Will published “Men At Work: The Craft of Baseball” in 1990, which topped The New York Times best-seller list for two months. “Bunts: Curt Flood, Camden Yards, Pete Rose and Other Reflections on Baseball,” a best-selling collection of writings Will wrote about baseball, was also published by Scribner. Will was a member of Major League Baseball’s Blue Ribbon Panel, examining baseball economics.

He also became a founding panel member on ABC television’s “This Week” in 1981.

Will was born in Champaign, Ill., and earned his doctorate at Princeton University. He has taught political philosophy at Michigan State University, the University of Toronto and Harvard University. Will also served as a staff member in the United States Senate from 1970 to 1972.

The Monfort Lecture Series at CSU has featured such prominent speakers as Condoleezza Rice, 66th secretary of the state; United Nations Messenger of Peace, Jane Goodall, DBE; Mikhail Gorbachev, former Soviet leader; Madeleine Albright, first female U.S. Secretary of State; Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu; and Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf.
