Larimer Humane Society Giving Tree to Benefit Colorado State University Pets Forever Program

Staff and volunteers of Larimer Humane Society have selected Pets Forever as the beneficiary of their holiday giving tree and will donate gifts to the two- and four-legged constituents of the nonprofit organization.

Pets Forever is a Colorado State University sponsored local nonprofit serving low-income elderly and disabled residents of Larimer County. Student and community volunteers provide care for pets whose owners are no longer able, ensuring low-income elderly and disabled residents can continue to keep their pets in their homes despite changing life situations.

The benefits of pet ownership are vast including lowered blood pressure and cholesterol, a more positive attitude and even a more robust social life. Despite these benefits, elderly and disabled citizens often abstain from pet ownership due to a lack of confidence in their ability to provide adequate care. For this reason, Pets Forever was founded through which CSU students could visit pet owners on a regular basis and help to exercise, feed and clean up after their critters.

Pets Forever currently serves approximately 65 people in Larimer County and each will receive at least one gift for their pets through Larimer Humane Society’s giving tree. From treats to leashes to toys, each four-legged community member will have something to open under the tree thanks to this partnership.
