Colorado State University celebrates Black History Month throughout February
Colorado State University’s Black/African American Cultural Center has a full month of programs scheduled to celebrate Black History this year. From the kick-off event at noon on Feb. 1 to the Black Tie Affair on the evening of March 1, lectures, discussions, films, networking, even a Black History Quiz Bowl will provide the on-campus community an opportunity to explore and reflect on a unique culture.
“Through the celebration of Black History Month each year, we take the time to remember, reunite and rededicate ourselves to our history,” said Bridgette Johnson, director of the Black/African American Cultural Center at CSU. “It is an opportunity for us to reflect collectively on all we as a culture have gone through and take pride in it.”
The theme for this year’s month-long celebration is “Roots: Regulating our own Trail to Success,” and will feature a showing of all three parts of the “Roots” mini-series. Featured speakers include Eddie Moore, Jr., director of diversity at Brooklyn Friends School in Brooklyn, N.Y. ; newscaster Meagan Fitzgerald of 9News in Denver; and author Omar Tyree.
Sponsors include United Women of Color; United Men of Color; Associated Students of CSU; Black Student Alliance; National Pan-Hellenic Council; CSU Africans United; ASAP, and the Black/African American Cultural Center.
