Alice Schroeder, author of the best-selling "The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life," will be the keynote speaker for the inaugural Global Finance Summit at Colorado State University on March 1. CSU’s College of Business will host an impressive panel of speakers and panelists at the half-day event, 7 a.m. – 1:45 p.m., at the University Center for the Arts, 1400 Remington St., Fort Collins.

In addition to Schroeder, the Global Finance Summit will bring together diverse financial professionals, economists, and academics for expert commentary and debate on topics relating to the overall state of the global and domestic economy, fiscal and monetary policy, investment strategies, and business challenges.

Schroeder, a columnist for Bloomberg View, is a CPA, former all-star securities analyst and regulator with senior experience in nearly every part of the financial world. From the boardroom to startups and the scandals of the financial crisis, Schroeder will explain the big picture and its transformative lessons from the perspective of an inside player in the global financial scene.

Other speakers and panelists will include James Allen, senior vice president of Finance Molycorp Inc.; Drew Gottenborg, vice president of GK Baum & Co.; Jeff Glajch, CFO of Graham Corp.; Robert Webber, vice chairman, CFO, and treasurer of Fort Collins-based Woodward; Brian Cunningham, president and CIO of 361 Capital; Martin Fridson, author and speaker; Jonathan Rains, investment strategist at The Russell Co.; Charles Williams, executive director of wealth management at Morgan Stanley; and Chris Younger, managing director of Capital Value Advisors.

“The GFS is a premier global event bringing some of the best minds together in an open format to discuss relevant geo-political, economic and financial issues,” said David Mascio, College of Business faculty member and conference director. “These issues directly impact the asset allocation strategies of individual and corporate investors.”

The Global Finance Summit will be presented in three interactive sessions, moderated by College of Business students, that promise lively debate.

The first session, “A Current Overview of the Global Economy,” will feature discussion from Fridson, Williams, and Rains. Cunningham, Gottenborg, and Younger will engage each other over “Alternative Investment Strategies.” Finally, Allen, Glajch, and Webber will participate in discourse regarding corporate finance in the “Economic Uncertainty: Corporate Investment and Financing Challenges” session.

Schroeder’s keynote speech will take place after lunch with an introduction by Sanjay Ramchander, chair of the Department of Finance and Real Estate in the College of Business.
