Colorado State University’s Campus Recreation Center Listed Among Nation’s Best

“Best College Reviews: A Guide to the Best Colleges in America” recently listed Colorado State University’s Campus Recreation Center among the best in the nation.

The newly built facility was recognized for its indoor pool, natural stone and wood throughout the center, and large windows that allow users to view the Rocky Mountains during their workout. The Rec Center is home to the single largest strength training facility in the state. It also features two 38-foot-tall rock-climbing towers and a bouldering wall/cave, an aquatic center that boasts a 12-foot-tall climbing wall, lazy river and 35-person spa, two massage rooms, cardio-weight areas measuring over 24,000 square feet, four exercise studios and a refurbished three-lane track.

“Colorado State students made this beautiful and functional building possible, and we are grateful to them for their foresight and leadership,” said Judy Muenchow, executive director of Campus Recreation. “The center is not only a wonderful resource for the entire campus community, but also a great recruitment tool for prospective students, faculty and staff. The expansion and renovations allows us to continue to offer healthy options in supporting student success with a well-rounded college experience.”

The Rec Center, which received its LEED Gold status in 2012, also was recognized with the 2012 Outstanding Sports Facilities Award by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association; Citation by the American School & University Architectural Portfolio; and the Innovative Architectural & Design Award from Recreation Management.

Colorado State’s Campus Recreation Center was built using environmentally friendly features, including wood harvested under certified ecologically responsible guidelines, carpet consisting of recycled fibers, and low-emitting materials throughout the building.

“Best College Reviews” ranks accredited colleges based on student outcomes, including job placement and advancement, as well as experiences that help lead to student success. Other institutions listed include The Ohio State University, Pepperdine University and Pennsylvania State University.
