Decorated Colorado State University Engineering Professor Wins IEEE Award

Branislav Notaros, professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Colorado State University, has been awarded the 2013 IEEE Region 5 Outstanding Engineering Educator Award, with citation “for outstanding contributions to engineering education.”

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technology for humanity. The organization is designed to serve professionals involved in electrical, electronic and computing fields as well as other areas of science and technology. There are more than 425,000 IEEE members in over 160 countries and the organization publishes nearly a third of the world’s technical literature in various areas of engineering, science and technology. The world is divided into 10 IEEE Regions.

Notaros is a past recipient of the IEEE Microwave Prize and the IEE Marconi Premium, for his research accomplishments in the areas of microwaves and antennas.
Notaros also recently was awarded the 2012 Board of Governors Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award at Colorado State for his innovative and unique approach to teaching. He is beloved and highly respected by his students. His reputation is as a superior teacher who inspires students to learn in his inviting and exciting classes.

He has also been the recipient of the ECE Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009, 2010 and 2011 as a result of student nominations and votes. He also has received the 2010 George T. Abell Outstanding Teaching and Service Faculty Award from the College of Engineering.

Notaros received a doctoral degree from the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, where he served as an assistant professor. Before joining CSU in 2006, he also worked at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He is the author of “Electromagnetics,” published by Pearson Prentice Hall in 2010, which discusses new teaching and learning methods and techniques for undergraduate students. Through this book, he has gained significant attention and gratitude from educators and scholars in the field of electromagnetics. His newest book, “MATLAB-Based Electromagnetics” features a unique approach of explaining electromagnetics using the engineering software tool MATLAB.
