New Anthropology Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State University Offered Online
Industry demand has spurred the launch of Colorado State University’s latest online degree offering – a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. CSU will now offer this sought-after degree online, through its OnlinePlus division.
“Training in anthropology puts students and professionals at the center of many of society’s most pressing problems and able to communicate across cultural divides,” said Mica Glantz, associate professor and Anthropology Department chair.
The new online anthropology bachelor’s prepares students for any career that requires sensitivity to cultural differences and an ability to incorporate that sensitivity into daily organizational operations. Companies across the globe working with minority populations or multiple foreign cultures have a need for someone with a background in anthropology.
Examples of relevant areas of employment include:
• Health sciences
• Education
• International development
• Non-governmental organizations (NGO)
• Cultural brokers, and other areas of government
• Contract archeologists
• Museum curators
• Nonprofit organizations
“In all kinds of local as well as global settings, culturally diverse groups operate from different assumptions about what makes sense or how to show care or when to laugh,” said Kate Browne, anthropology professor. “Learning how to manage the differences at play with an educated awareness and intelligence is part of an anthropologist’s toolkit.”
Through a curriculum built on cultural relativism, the program gives students a thorough understanding of cultural differences, skills in working with underserved populations and the tools to think critically about the world around them.
Unique to CSU’s online anthropology degree is the option for students to attend one of three summer field schools in person as a hands-on supplement to their online courses. The field schools include Paleontology; Archeology; and Ethnographic Field School, held in Wyoming; various locations throughout Northern Colorado; and South Dakota respectively.
