Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: CSU’s Cans Around the Oval Celebrates 28 Years

Colorado State University’s 28th annual Cans Around the Oval will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, on the historic CSU Oval.

DETAILS:

CSU President Tony Frank, CSU Vice President for Student Affairs Blanche Hughes and Food Bank for Larimer County Executive Director Amy Pezzani will give remarks at 10 a.m. and place the first few cans around the Oval. Dr. Frank will also present his own donation at that time.

As the largest one-day food drive in northern Colorado, CSU partners with the Food Bank for Larimer County to raise food and monetary donations to help those in need in the community. Last year alone, Cans Around the Oval collected 63,713 pounds of food and $49,260 in donations. This year, organizers seek to collect more than 64,000 pounds of food and $52,000 in donations.

Cans Around the Oval helps more than 40,000 people who depend on the Food Bank for Larimer County. The donations from this one collection day can help these individuals for up to four months.

The four-week food drive began on Sept. 11 and concludes Oct. 22, when all of the donated food will be weighed.
