The Colorado State University student chapter of Fashion Group International (FGI) is kicking off “FGI Pop Art Fashion Show: Gallery Exhibition” on Friday, Dec. 5, featuring the best looks from the FGI Recycled Fall Fashion Show.

The exhibition will be open until April 10. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the Gustafson Gallery, in room 318 of the Gifford Building, 502 W. Lake St.

The student chapter of FGI, located in the Department of Design and Merchandising in the College of Health and Human Sciences, held its annual recycled fashion show on Nov. 15: “Pop Couture: Off the Canvas and Onto the Runway.” Many of the pop-art-inspired garments were created by students in Diane Sparks’ Design Foundations class who used a variety of recycled materials to demonstrate their understanding of the principles and elements of design. Original, non-recycled garments created by students in the department were also included in the show. The winning looks in each category, as well as the garments selected for the gallery exhibit, were determined by faculty vote.

“Featuring pieces in the Gustafson Gallery is an excellent opportunity to appreciate the construction, creativity and innovation found in these recycled and unconventional garments,” said Nina Mascheroni, a member of FGI who is curating the gallery exhibit. “We’re really excited to showcase these looks to the students, faculty, and staff at CSU!”

Fashion Group International is a global, nonprofit professional group with a mission to help its members become more effective in their careers by offering insights on trends and access to business professionals.
