Learn how Colorado State University walks the sustainability walk at April’s Managing the Planet panel
FORT COLLINS — This semester’s final Managing the Planet panel discussion series, presented by the School of Global Environmental Sustainability (SoGES), examines what Colorado State University is doing toward sustainability. The discussion will be held April 29, 5-6:30 p.m., at Avogadro’s Number, 605 S. Mason St.
“Colorado State University is one of the most sustainably active universities in the nation,” said Dale Lockwood, academic coordinator for SoGES. “Our Managing the Planet panels have discussed the sustainability issues, big and small, that our world faces, but they don’t often touch on what we are doing here at CSU. For our last panel of the semester, we’ve decided to highlight what’s going on right here at our university.”
CSU has recently received remarkable national recognition for its commitment to sustainability, in education and research as well as operations and facilities. In March, CSU earned the first-ever Platinum rating from the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. Other recent accolades have come from The Princeton Review and the U.S. Department of Education; the Pavilion at Laurel Village has just been designated the first LEED Platinum building on campus.
Lockwood will be joined on the panel by Tonie Miyamoto, director of communications and sustainability for Housing & Dining Services at CSU; Carol Dollard, utility engineer in CSU Facilities Management; and Jacob Kimiecik, director of SoGES’ Student Sustainability Center. The panel will be moderated by Gene Kelly, head of the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences and SoGES director of research.
The panel is free and open to the public. This is the final Managing the Planet for the semester; the next one will take place in September.
