Basketball legend Becky Hammon speaks at CSU Sept. 17

FORT COLLINS — Becky Hammon, Colorado State University alumna and assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs, will be speaking in the Lory Student Center Grand Ballroom on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
Hammon was part of the CSU 1989-1999 women’s basketball team that earned a 33-3 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen. She has been named an All-American and Colorado Sportswoman of the Year, and was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
Hammon was inducted into the Colorado State University Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 12, 2004, and her No. 25 jersey was retired in 2005.
“We were so excited for the opportunity to bring Becky Hammon to campus,” says Rachel D’Attilo, External Relations/ Public Relations Coordinator for RamEvents. “We feel that she is an influential CSU alumna with an inspiring story.”
In 1999, Hammon was signed to the Women’s National Basketball Association’s New York Liberty. She took over as the Liberty’s starting point guard in 2003 and on Aug. 16, 2005, she scored her 2000th WNBA career point.
At the end of the 2005 season, Hammon was named to the All-WNBA Second Team; in 2011, she was named one of the WNBA Top 15 Players of All-Time. She retired from the WNBA at the end of the 2014 season.
Hammon made history when she was named the San Antonio Spurs assistant coach for the 2014/2015 season, and made even more history as the first-ever female head coach in the NBA’s Summer League where she coached the Spurs to the league title.
