United Nations Climate Conference Confab at Avo’s Nov. 11

In advance of a United Nations conference on climate change, the School of Global Environmental Sustainability will host a panel discussion at Avogadro’s Number from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11.

SoGES is responsible for managing CSU’s participation as an official observer organization for the conference, which will take place in early December in Paris, France. The CSU delegation to the “Conference of Parties,” as it is being called, consists of six faculty delegates from across campus, including panelist Peter Backlund.

The goal of the conference is to reach a new international agreement on climate, with an aim to set targets on global warming.

CSU experts will discuss possible outcomes of the climate talks for the United States and the world at large, while also providing insight into what transpires at this type of United Nations conference.

The panel includes:

Michele Betsill, Department of Political Science
Peter Backlund, School of Global Environmental Sustainability
Joe von Fischer, Department of Biology
Keith Paustian, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences

The discussion will be moderated by Gene Kelly, associate director for Research and Development at SoGES. Kelly is also a professor in CSU’s Department of Soil and Crop Sciences and interim CEO for NEON, Boulder.

The panel discussion—part of a Managing the Planet series—is free of charge and open to the public.
