Community Welcome introduces CSU students and longtime Fort Collins residents Aug. 24

FORT COLLINS — The City of Fort Collins and Colorado State University are teaming up for the 16th annual Community Welcome Wednesday, Aug. 24, 4:30-8 p.m., in neighborhoods around campus.

Every year, CSU and the city collaborate to foster positive community relations between new students and long-term residents of Fort Collins. More than 200 volunteers visit more than 2,000 of the residences that surround the CSU campus and chat with neighbors about various topics. It helps students find a sense of community early in the fall semester.

The volunteers will encourage neighbors to introduce themselves and exchange contact information. In the past, volunteers have ranged from CSU Athletic Director Joe Parker to the Larimer Humane Society Animal Control Service. Police officers from the City of Fort Collins and CSU join forces to foster positive connections with students and residents.

In addition to connecting students and community members, this event also serves to raise awareness of new ordinances in Fort Collins.

Commuinity Welcome also encourages positive interactions between students and residents and campus and city police officers.

“This event highlights how much the University and the City of Fort Collins truly care about the surrounding community,” said Jeannie Ortega, director of Off-Campus Life.

The event would not be possible without the individuals who volunteer and help introduce Fort Collins as a welcoming community.

“Rams support Rams and the entire community,” Ortega said.
